The Mycological Curriculum for Education and Discovery (Myco-Ed) engages students in fungal biology and comparative genomics by isolating environmental fungi and performing phenotype assays. Data are shared via iNaturalist to support research at the Joint Genome Institute. Since its pilot 2.5 years ago, Myco-Ed has trained over 600 students across 30 classrooms, resulting in 1,100+ observations and 50+ novel fungal species sequenced. A new initiative aims to understand fungal drought tolerance through student research. Myco-Ed is currently recruiting instructors to participate in this collaborative effort to bridge critical knowledge gaps. Join this session to learn more about MycoEd!
