Here, we present a case study designed for upper-division courses that teaches diabetes metabolism by following the compelling story of a patient initially misdiagnosed with Type 2 diabetes, integrating various learning activities. This case has been extensively tested, showing significant learning gains. Attendees of this workshop will experience an abbreviated form of the case study to learn about diabetes and outline the social justice implications of misdiagnosis. Attendees will walk through data gathering and analysis strategies to measure learning gains and will be able to apply this experience to integrate case studies into their teaching.
