Many undergraduates are excited about research and interested in graduate school, yet many of them reach those opportunities with little or no wet lab experience. In my teaching and mentoring in food science and microbiology, I routinely work with students who are motivated but unsure of how to handle basic lab techniques or what is expected in a research environment. This microbrew will share practical, classroom, and lab-based ideas for helping these students build confidence, core laboratory skills, and a clearer sense of what research work looks like.
