Attendees will be introduced to a Project Lab model with collaborative research, science communication, and generative AI to support student learning. AI can bridge student skill gaps in project-based experiences while maintaining authentic learning and student ownership. Students used museum-curated resources to investigate the history and science of influenza while developing resources for public health communication. AI was a tool throughout the project, script development, revision, and animation. Students remained responsible for providing peer feedback, maintaining scientific accuracy, and making editorial decisions. Attendees will leave with a framework for using AI to bridge student skill gaps while developing community-engaged projects.
