AI touches so many facets of education that AI policies have a lot to balance: far more than any other policy in our syllabi. From brainstorming and correcting grammar, to using AI as electronic lab notebooks and formatting data tables, it’s still an open question of what uses of AI are appropriate in Microbiology teaching, research, and learning. Come learn a simple approach for co-designing policies with students to increase buy-in, promote openness about AI use, discover what AI uses students care about, and promote the best practices of only those specific uses—instead of policing AI and education writ large.
